Sumner county is made up of quite a few cities, including Gallatin, Goodlettsville, Hendersonville, Millersville, Mitchellville, Portland, Bethpage, Westmoreland, Cottontown, Castalian Springs and White House. Sumner County is 25 miles northeast of Nashville, Tennessee, so it is where a lot of people want to live due to being so close to the interstate and commuting to Nashville.
If you are planning on moving to Tennesse then Sumner County has many great cities and options for you! I will highlight some things to do in several of these wonderful little cities. My family & I live in Sumner County, on the Gallatin side of Portland! If you are coming from Nashville on interstate 65 heading North, your first stop in Sumner County would be Goodlettsville, TN! This city is made up a few counties, but the Sumner County side is close to Hendersonville and is usually zoned for Beech Schools, which I personally graduated from back in 1990! We used to live in Goodlettsville for 23 years before we lost our home and everything we owned to a house fire in 2015! It is so close to everything and has done a lot of growing since we moved 7 years ago. There are many hotels, restaurants, shopping, antique stores & our favorite place to shop for furnitures is BF Myers, located behind the city hall. The Dollar General Corporate offices are off Conference Drive. The family can enjoy going to Moss Wright Park or the Historic Mansker Station on Caldwell Dr. And if you like golf then down the road from teh park is Twelve Stones!
Visit Goodlettsville - This is a link to anything you want to know about Goodlettsville, TN!
Next stop is Hendersonville, TN where I have an office inside of Benchmark Realty. Hendersonville is known for being the City by the Lake, where you can enjoy a day on Old Hickory Lake with the family, go to the park, dine on the water or anywhere in the city since there are so many great restaurants to choose from and shop at the Streets of Indian Lake! There is so much to do in this great city so you can live, work and play here! Many of my clients that have relocated here to Tennessee from California have moved to Hendersonville because they have the best of both worlds.....water & outdoor life and its so close to everything they need to do! Making the Move from California to Tennessee FB Group is a brand new Facebook Group I started. Nashville is about a 30 minute drive so it makes it easy if you work in Nashville or have to go to Vanderbilt Hospital or doctors then you are not that far. If you live on the lake side of Hendersonville then your kids may be zoned for Hendersonville High School. If you are on the other side of Hendersonville that borders Long Hollow Pike, then it would be either Beech High School or Station Camp High School and Merrol Hyde Magnet School! There is plenty of sports if your kiddos want to play in while in school or get that sports scholarship! If you want to live on the water, then I can help you find the perfect lake home!
We are members of Bluegrass Yacht & Country Club on Main Street in Hendersonville. You can enjoy a day on the golf course, many social functions or have your next party in the ball room. My family & I are social members and love to dine there many nights during the week. We enjoy mixers, painting with a twist, live music on Wednesday nights, pool and many social functions throughout the year! We have been members for many years and are known for having our own booth....The Hicks Booth.....lol! There is also tennis & a marina that has a waiting list a mile long.
There are marinas to keep your boat at in Hendersonville, which include Drakes Creek Marina where we used to keep our boat for over 12 or 13 yrs before we decided to buy an RV again and travel, so we sold it a few months ago. They have dry storage and wet slips, but if you want to use it from dry storage you call or use the app and have them splash it so it will be waiting for you at the dock when you arrive. Creekwood Marina is on the same street as Drakes Creek Marina and has wet slips only. Anchor High Marina has dry storage, wet slips and a restaurant on the water called the Rudder at Anchor High. You can fill your boat up usually at any marina that has gas pumps on the water and they are non ethanol, which is what we only used for our boat.
Let's talk about Gallatin, TN, which shares Station Camp High School, but also has the brand new, state of the art schools.....the new Liberty Creek Schools Liberty Creek High School that just opened in 2022! I have a listing currently in that school zone located at 170 Upper Station Camp Creek Listing so please check it out! There are many communities including Fairvue Plantation & Foxland Harbor with TN Grasslands Golf & Country Club and I've helped move many clients to this area. You get to enjoy the water on Old Hickory Lake here as well with many beautiful lake homes to choose from. If you like the small town feel then spend a day in Historic Downtown Gallatin. If my family and I want to eat out besides the country club, then we either dine in Gallatin, Hendersonville or White House. Things to do in Gallatin, TN
Portland is known for its strawberry festival every year and it's where we call home. See my blog post on Why move to Portland, TN for more info! I say we have the best of both worlds because we are in the county, not the city of Portland and are so close to Highway 109, which takes us anywhere quickly and we can be in Kentucky in no time. We enjoy going to our country club to eat several times a week, but if we are not there we may venture over to White House, Gallatin or up to Franklin, Ky to dine and shop! We can usually be anywhere within 15-24 min from where we live! I have so many clients that want to move to Portland. The other side of Portland that is closer to Kentucky has an interstate exchange so it cuts time off your drive to Nashville and is an easy connector to Kentucky too. The scenery is beautiful as you travel down country roads and I love seeing the farm animals and barns! We are an ever growing city with the small town feel. Portland Chamber of Commerce
All About White House - White House is a neighboring city and has grown so much since the 80's and 90's. It has so many options for dining, shopping & living. It is a lot like Portland as far as small town feel with many country roads, but with the growth of neighborhoods and booming real estate the city has grown exponentially over the past 10 years. Many of my clients love it there and we also love to eat and shop there since it is so close to where we live. From Portland, we just go to 109 and take Highway 76 all the way to White House!
There are many great cities in Sumner County to choose from, so if you are looking to buy in the area please give me a call and I can help you with the process of moving to Tennessee!
